John Kelsey Cottrell has been with the firm since 2005.

While in law school, Mr. Cottrell interned with the judges of the Circuit Court of Henrico County, Virginia.  Mr. Cottrell has acted as lead counsel on several matters in both the Juvenile and Domestic Relations and the Circuit Courts, and routinely argues motions in all courts.  He has been fully involved in trial preparation, witness interviews, and other aspects of the firm’s family law practice for several years as a law clerk and as an attorney, including a number of complex multi-day hearings involving equitable distribution, custody and support.  He has written numerous briefs to the appellate courts of Virginia.   Mr. Cottrell is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Virginia State Bar, Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County Bar Associations.

Mr. Cottrell received his B.A. in the liberal arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis) in 2002.

He earned his J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 2005.
